The short version
You're sharing something tender with us — what's happening in your body, what you're feeling, what you're struggling with. We treat that the way it deserves to be treated.
- Your data is yours. Always.
- We never sell it, and we never share it with advertisers.
- We never use your entries or conversations to train AI.
- You can export or delete everything, any time, for any reason.
What we collect
Only what's needed to be useful to you:
- Account details — your name and email address. We don't use passwords — we sign you in with a one-time 6-digit code sent to your inbox, or with Apple Sign-In on iOS. If you use Apple Sign-In, Apple may share a relay email address on your behalf, which is the only identifier we receive.
- About you — your menopause stage and the symptoms you want to track, so we can tailor what we show you.
- Your entries — diary notes, symptom logs, mood taps, and reflections you choose to save.
- Your conversations — the messages you exchange with Ovela, so the chat has memory and can be meaningful.
- Subscription status — handled by our payments partner. We never see or store your card details.
Where it lives, and how it's protected
Your data is stored on secure servers provided by Supabase, our database partner. Everything is encrypted in transit (using TLS) and encrypted at rest on their servers.
Access is locked down at the database level: only your account can read your rows. Not other users. Not our team browsing casually. The database itself enforces it.
Your conversations with Ovela
When you chat with Ovela, your messages are sent to Anthropic (the makers of Claude, the AI that powers the conversation) so they can generate a reply. Anthropic processes the message and returns a response.
Anthropic does not use your conversations to train their AI models. They keep messages only as long as needed to provide the service and handle safety review. We store your conversation history on our own servers so Ovela can remember context in future sessions — and you can clear it whenever you like.
Who can see your data
You. That's it. Not other users of Ovela. Not advertisers. Not data brokers. Not researchers.
A small number of our team may access data only when strictly necessary — for example, to help you recover an account or to investigate a bug you've reported. These access events are logged.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data. Ever. To anyone.
- We don't share it with advertisers or marketing networks.
- We don't use your entries or conversations to train AI models.
- We don't run hidden third-party trackers in the app.
- We don't sell aggregated or anonymised health data to research firms.
Your rights
You're always in control:
- See it — request a copy of everything we hold about you.
- Correct it — edit your name, stage, symptoms, or any entry from inside the app.
- Delete it — delete individual entries, your chat history, or your entire account. When you delete your account, we remove your data from our live systems within 30 days.
- Take it with you — export your diary and journal entries at any time.
A note on health information
Some of what you share with Ovela — symptoms, moods, cycle details — is sensitive health information. We treat it that way. It stays inside your private account, protected by the same safeguards as the rest of your data, and we don't use it for any purpose other than helping you.
Ovela is a wellness companion, not a medical provider. We don't diagnose, we don't prescribe, and we're not a substitute for talking to your GP.
Changes to this policy
If we ever change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll let you know in the app before the changes take effect. You'll have a chance to read them and decide.
